The Goodman Theatre's double bill of Hughie and Krapp's Last Tape, starring Brian Dennehy, will run January 16-February 21 in the Albert Ivar Theatre. The shows are aiming for a Broadway transfer in April, but no Broadway house has yet been named for the run.
Robert Falls will direct Eugene O'Neill's Hughie, in which Dennehy plays a high-rolling gambler, while Joe Grifasi plays the night clerk at his apartment building. Jennifer Tarver will direct Samuel Beckett's Krapp's Last Tape, with Dennehy as the titular character who every year on his birthday, records the important -- and the banal --moments of the last year. These conjoined productions were first performed to universal acclaim at Canada's Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Summer 2008.
Dennehy starred in the Goodman's recent Broadway production of Desire Under the Elms, and won Tonys for Death of a Salesman (which also garnered him an Olivier Award) and Long Day's Journey Into Night. Additional Broadway credits include Inherit the Wind and Translations. He has numerous film and television credits, earning two Golden Globe Awards and six Emmy nominations.
